--Punjab government gives mod to Barnala canal concrete relining project
-Rs 81.53 cr project will increase water carrying capacity of canal by 20 percent, Meet Hayer

Following the orders of Chief Minister Punjab Mr Bhagwant Singh Mann to ensure that water for irrigation reaching every field, the Punjab government has given nod to concrete relining project of Barnala tributary of Kotla branch. The project worth Rs 81.53 cr will increase the ester carrying capacity of canal by 20 percent thereby greatly benefitting the farmers. It would also provide potable drinking water to areas of Barnala and Sangrur
Sharing the information, Member of Parliament, Sangrur, Mr Gurmeet Singh Meet Hayer said that under the given nod for year 2024-25, a budget of Rs 22.47 cr was set aside. Under this allotment 51 43 kms long relining work was to be done. Farmers of Sangrur villages Badshahpur, Ranike, Ghanauri Kalan, Ghanauri Khurd, Rangiyan and Barnala villages Sekha, Handiaya, Farwahi, Khuddi Khurd, Ghunas will get proper water supply. It shall also provide droning water to the above mentioned villages.
With the completion of this project, farmers' dependency on underground water for irrigation shall lessen and it would replenish the ground water. It shall also help saving power.
