Long-standing demand of localite fulfilled
Pathankot, February 16:
Punjab Cabinet Minister Lal Chand Kataruchak, on Sunday, laid the foundation stone for the project to widen and strengthen the defense road from Mamun to Madhopur, fulfilling a long-standing demand of the local people.
Speaking to media persons after laying the foundation stone, Lal Chand Kataruchak said that this approximately 16-kilometer-long road will be completed in record time at a cost of Rs.10.9 crore, adding that road's width will be increased from the current 23 feet to 33 feet.
While congratulating the local folks on this project, the Cabinet Minister said that Chief Minister S. Bhagwant Singh Mann led government has chalked out major projects in every sector to elevate the living standards of state residents.
"Due to heavy traffic on the Mamun to Madhopur Defense Road, terrible accidents were occurring and many precious lives were lost, which led to demands for widening and strengthening of this road", said the Cabinet Minister, adding that today, the foundation stone has been laid for this 16-kilometer road project costing Rs.10.9 crore, which will be widened from 23 feet to 33 feet. He said road's completion will provide significant relief to area residents besides greatly benefiting the Mamun Cantonment where the army is stationed. He said that this would be the widest road in the Pathankot district.
The Cabinet Minister said that the road work will be completed in record time and with complete transparency. He directed Public Works Department officials and road contractor that taxpayers' money should be spent entirely for the public benefit and no laxity would be tolerated in this regard.
On the demand of the shopkeepers of Mamoon Chowk to construct public toilet near the chowk, the Cabinet Minister agreed and said that their demand would be fulfilled soon.
