The Member of Parliament Sangrur Mr Gurmeet Singh Meet Hayer today called upon the newly elected sarpanches and panches to eradicate groupism from villages and focus on development.
Addressing the newly elected 175 sarpanches and 1285 panches during the district level oath taking ceremony held at Baba Kala Mehar Stadium today, Meet Hayer congratulated the newly elected public representatives and called upon them to perform their duties towards people diligently and honestly.
He added that under the stewardship of Chief Minister Punjab Mr Bhagwant Singh Mann district Barnala had been getting enough funds for development for the past two-and-a-half years. The district has received Rs 300 crores so far for laying pipelines for the irrigation project. He added that the developmental streak will continue in future.
Meet Hayer said that 18 panchayats in district have been elected unanimously and the number is bound to increase in future giving a message of harmony in villages.
MLA Mehal Kalan and chairman privilege committee Mr Kulwant Singh Pandori said that panchayati raj system was the pivotal in democracy. He called upon the sarpanches and panches to take pro-people decisions so that the common man is benefitted.
Earlier, Deputy Commissioner Barnala Mrs Punamdeep Kaur extended a warm welcome to the sarpanches and panches to the function. She added that a training program will soon be organized for the newly elected sarpanches and panches apprising them of their works and grants.
The chief guest MP Gurmeet Singh Meet Hayer, chairman privilege committee Vidhan Sabha Kulwant Singh Pandori, chairman Improvement Trust Ram Tirath Manna, chairman market committee Tapa Tarsem Singh Kahneke, Harinder Singh Dhaliwal, Hasanpreet Bharadwaj and president nagar council Barnala Gurjit Singh released the book Mera Pind by renowned author Giani Gurditt Singh.
ADC (G) Latif Ahmed, ADC (D) Satwant Singh, SDM Barnala Gurbir Singh Kohli, SDM Tapa Rishabh Bansal, DDPO Amarinder Singh Chauhan and others were also present.
