- Farmers will not be allowed to face shortage of DAP and other fertilizers : Deputy Commissioner
- Also appeals to use fertilizers, chemicals, and water judiciously
Jalandhar, November 17:
Deputy Commissioner Dr. Himanshu Aggarwal today said that no stone would be left unturned by the district administration to ensure the successful completion of the Kharif season as well as the Rabi season. He said that farmers will not be allowed to face any kind of shortage of DAP and other fertilizers with phosphorus elements during the Rabi season. According to the Agriculture Department, the district has a stock of 39,333 metric tonnes of fertilizer, while the demand is only about 35,000 metric tonnes.
Dr. Aggarwal said that with the receipt of more stock of fertilizers today, the Agriculture Department has 32,652 metric tonnes of DAP and 6,681 metric tonnes of alternative fertilizers available in the district.
Instructing the Agriculture Department, the Deputy Commissioner said that continuous checks should be carried out on fertilizer stores to prevent hoarding of DAP. Apart from this, farmers should be made more aware of using fertilizers that can be used as alternatives to DAP.
Dr. Aggarwal appealed to the farmers to use fertilizers, chemicals, and water judiciously. He also asked the department to continuously initiate activities to make farmers aware of stubble management without burning and the use of fertilizers according to the need.
Agriculture Officer Dr. Surjit Singh said that after the harvest of paddy, phosphorus is required for the sowing of the main crop of wheat in the winter season. Appealing to farmers to reduce their dependence on DAP, he said that the phosphorus requirement can also be met by using triple super phosphate (0:46:0), NPK (12:32:16), single super phosphate NPK (16:16:16), and nitrophosphate 20:20:13. He said that these fertilizers are as effective as DAP. He said that the use of alternative fertilizers results in a better yield of the crop by replenishing the nutrients in the soil. He said that any of the above phosphorus-containing fertilizers can be used as a substitute for DAP. He said that the use of these fertilizers preserves the nutrients in the soil and has a positive impact on the yield.
