DC Reviews Wheat Procurement Arrangements

- Deputy Commissioner Dr. Preeti Yadav today reviewed the preparations for the upcoming wheat procurement season, set to begin in April in Patiala district. During a meeting with district managers of various procurement agencies, she assessed the availability of gunny bags, transportation, labor, and other essential facilities in the mandis. She directed officials to ensure timely completion of all arrangements to facilitate smooth and efficient procurement operations.The meeting was attended by ADC (General) Isha Singal, ADC (Urban Development) Navreet Kaur Sekhon, ADC (Rural Development) Anuprita Johal, and SDM Nabha Dr. Ismit Vijay Singh.Dr. Preeti Yadav stated that over 9.6 lakh metric tons of wheat is expected to arrive in the mandis during the current Rabi season. She instructed procurement agencies to finalize storage and crate arrangements immediately and complete all tendering processes without delay. She also emphasized that farmers bringing their produce to the markets must not face any inconvenience. To ensure this, proper facilities such as cleanliness, drinking water, toilets, urinals, and adequate lighting must be well maintained.She further directed officials from the Food and Civil Supplies Department, the District Mandi Officer, Market Committee Secretaries, and procurement agency heads to ensure seamless operations. Any negligence in arrangements will not be tolerated, and strict action will be taken against any lapses.Dr. Preeti Yadav also stressed the importance of properly functioning weighing scales and moisture meters, along with adequate arrangements for tarpaulins and crates to protect the produce.
The meeting was attended by District Mandi Officer Mandeep Singh, Sanjeev Sharma from Markfed, Nirmal Singh from Warehousing, Vineet Goel from PUNSUP, and Ashish from FCI.
