Administration all set for voting on November 20, accomplished requisite arrangements: Deputy Commissioner

Hoshiarpur, November 18: In view of bypoll for Chabbewal assembly segment, the District Administration has accomplished the requisite arrangments for the voting to be held on November 20 i.e. Wednesday. The voting to be started at 07:00 am to 6:00 pm while the counting will be taking place on November 23. The polling parties would be dispatched for their respective polling stations on November 19 from Rayat Bahra Group of Institutes.
While reviewing the preparation at polling parties dispatch and counting center, Deputy Commissioner-cum-District Election Officer Komal Mittal said that the administration was fully committed to ensure free, fair and peaceful poll process. The Deputy Commissioner and SSP Surendra Lamba also led the flag march at Chabbewal. SSP said that more than 1500 police officials were deployed in the constituency besides beefing up the checking and security arrangments.
Giving information about the protocols starting 48-hours prior from the completion of voting time, Deputy Commissioner said that as per the protocols there should be no campaiging after 6 pm on Monday while the outsiders would have to leave the constituency. Similarly, the liqours shops/vends would remain closed after 6 pm while the marriage palaces/hotel oweners have also been directed to ensure the protocols as well as the model code of conduct. There would be a local holiday in the government offices, boards, corporations, educational institutions in the district on Wednesday. No use of loudspeakers is allowed during the 48 hours protocol, said Mittal adding there is also prohibition on exit poll and opinion poll during this period. The workers working in registered factories, shops and other establishments having votes in Chabbewal constituency would also get the opportunity to cast their votes on November 20.
Deputy Commissioner pointed out that the polling booths were not allowed within the limits of 200 meter ambit from the polling station. She said that the approval of Media Certification and Monitoring Committee is necessary for giving advertisements in print media on poll day or pre-poll day.
Pertinently, there are total 159432 voters in the constituency including 83704 male, 75724 female and four transgenders. As many as 600 service voters in the constituency including 571 male and 29 female while the number of polling stations are 205.
Meanwhile, the Returning Officer Rahul Chaba held a meeting with the representative of candidates and oweners of hotels/marriage palaces located in the constituency directing them to adhere to the model code of conduct in letter and spirit. He instructed the owners of hotels/resorts not to provide rooms to anyone without taking their identity proof.
