Deputy commissioner emphasises awareness to contain drug abuse
Reviews anti-drug measures in NCORD meeting, directs officials to launch joint efforts against menace

Deputy Commissioner Aashika Jain on Wednesday stressed that the awareness amongst the masses especially the young generation is must to eradicate drug menace as well as building healthy society.
Taking stock of anti-drug measures in the district during NCORD meeting here at district administrative complex, deputy commissioner Aashika Jain underlined the joint efforts of all the line departments working for the wiping out this menace. She said that anti-drug campaign should be a mass movement with the active participation of all stakeholders including various organisations in rural and urban areas besides rehabilitation of those who had trapped in drugs so that they could lead a healthy life in mainstream. She further pointed out that there were adequate rehabilitation arrangements in the drug de-addiction centres across the district so efforts should be intensified to educate the addicts for taking requisite treatments for better life. She said that the gym and skilled development activities were already in place in these centres and the district administration is also contemplating to initiate the Yoga classes shortly.
Deputy Commissioner also stated that the capacity enhancement of district level rehabilitation centres is already in progress, which is would immensely helpful for the addicts.
Reviewing the activities of police against drugs, deputy commissioner was apprised that the police had registered 98 cases under NDPS Act with the arrest of 121 accused, while recovering 394gm of heroin; more than 2 kg of opium, 2.4 kg intoxicant powder, 4933 psychotropic capsules and tables besides seizing Rs 20,200 of drug money. She directed health and police officials to launch joint crackdown against selling of psychotropic substances m.
Additional deputy commissioner Nikas Kumar and senior officials of several departments were also present.
