Successful Body and Organ Donation and Transplantation Awareness Event

Patiala, February 17, 2025: The Organ Donation and Transplantation Awareness Event, organized by SOTTO Punjab, Government Medical College & Rajindra Hospital, Patiala, in association with Manipal Hospital, Patiala, was successfully conducted. The event focused on raising awareness about the importance of organ donation, legal aspects, and transplantation procedures, witnessing active participation from NGOs, medical experts, and the general public, making it a significant success.

The event was further enriched by the collaboration of Goyals' Charitable Foundation Trust, Aggarwal Samaj Sabha, Bharat Vikas Parishad, and Shri Sanatan Dharam Kumar Sabha, which played a crucial role in spreading awareness and engaging with the public on the importance of organ donation.

Eminent medical experts from Government Medical College & Rajindra Hospital, Patiala, shared their valuable insights. Dr. Rajan Singla (Chairman, SOTTO Punjab; Director Principal & Head, Department of Anatomy) spoke on the significance of body donation and its scientific and social benefits. Dr. Gagneen Kaur Sandhu (Nodal Officer, SOTTO Punjab) elaborated on the role of SOTTO Punjab and the organ donation process. Dr. Akash Deep (Head, Department of Forensic Medicine) discussed the legal framework surrounding organ donation and transplantation, ensuring that people understand the legal safeguards and ethical considerations. Dr. Anand Aggarwal (Head, Department of Ophthalmology) highlighted the importance of eye donation and how it provides the gift of sight to visually impaired individuals.

Medical experts from Manipal Hospital, Patiala, also made significant contributions. Dr. Guneet Singh (Intensivist) provided insights into brainstem death and its implications in organ donation, while Dr. Nitin Kumar (Nephrologist) emphasized kidney health, related diseases, and the need for organ donation.

This event proved to be instrumental in enhancing awareness, increasing public participation, and encouraging people to pledge their commitment to organ donation. Many attendees showed a keen interest in registering as organ donors, reflecting a positive shift in public perception.
