Punjab Cabinet Minister Harpal Singh Cheema today inaugurated the state level National Style Kabaddi games under ‘Khedan Watan Punjab Diyan’ here at Shaheed Bachan Singh Memorial Stadium in Dirba.
While speaking on the occasion, the cabinet minister said that the sportspersons of Punjab enthusiastically acheiving new heights at the national and international level tournaments as tireless efforts were being done under the progressive vision of Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann. He added that it has also enlightened the hope of bringing medals in the Olympic Games by the Punjab players.
Cabinet Minister Harpal Singh Cheema said that preliminary work has been started to provide national level sports facilities in this sports stadium of Dirba and with the support of Sports Department Punjab, work will be completed soon.
Cabinet Minister Harpal Singh Cheema congratulated more than 1500 sportspersons from across the state who participated in the state level sports competition and shared about the efforts being made by the Punjab government to promote sports. Harpal Singh Cheema said that this has happened for the first time when a government has put Rs 8 lakh each in the accounts of sportspersons for preparation before the international level games which resulted increase in the count of medals in the Asian Games.
Cabinet Minister Harpal Singh Cheema said that once Dirba was known as a backward area but under the leadership of Chief Minister Bhagwant Singh Mann, Aam Aadmi Party government was leaving no stone unturned for the multifaceted development of the constituency. The construction of a new tehsil complex is being completed rapidly and it was a great testimony to this.
He said that apart from strengthening the infrastructure, the Punjab government has also been actively working to improve the sports ability of the players of Punjab, to provide best coaches and technical training to improve the performance of players. He added that their government will also ensure 100 percent elimination of drugs from the state.
Earlier, the Cabinet Minister took salute from the march past and formally announced the starting of Games.
Deputy Commissioner Jitendra Jorwal, SSP Surendra Lamba, SDM Rajesh Sharma, Assistant Commissioner Richa Goyal, SP Navreet Singh, DSP Prithvi Singh Chahal, District Sports Officer Navdeep Singh were also present on this occasion.
